WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rapper Nicki Minaj doubled down on her support for President Donald Trump on Wednesday, declaring herself his biggest fan during a Treasury Department-hosted summit to launch “Trump Accounts” for newborn babies.
“I will say that I am probably the president’s No. 1 fan,” the 43-year-old “Starships” rapper told the crowd at the Washington event. “And that’s not going to change.”
Minaj, born Onika Maraj, said criticism from detractors only strengthens her resolve.
“The hate or what people have to say, it does not affect me at all. It actually motivates me to support him more, and it’s going to motivate all of us to support him more.”
She continued: “We’re not going to let them get away with bullying him and the smear campaigns. It’s not going to work, OK? He has a lot of force behind him, and God is protecting him.”
The rapper’s vocal support marks a shift from 2020, when she said she wouldn’t “jump on the Donald Trump bandwagon.” In recent years, however, Minaj has become increasingly public about her admiration for the president.
Last month, she made a surprise appearance at Turning Point USA’s annual conference, telling attendees: “I have the utmost respect and admiration for our president. He has given so many people hope that there’s a chance to beat the bad guys and to win and to do it with your head held high and your integrity intact. He’s from Queens, New York, like me.”
At Wednesday’s event, Trump praised Minaj, calling her the “greatest and most successful female rapper in history” and thanking her for donating “hundreds of thousands of dollars” into the Trump accounts.
“I just think she’s great,” Trump said. “I didn’t know Nicki, and I’ve been hearing over the years she’s a big Trump supporter, or Trump fan. And she took a little heat on occasion because her community isn’t necessarily a Trump fan.”
Trump, who was seen holding hands with Minaj at the event, joked about her long painted nails: “I’m going to let my nails grow because I love those nails. I’m going to let those nails grow.”
